Greener Kirkcaldy is very active throughout Fife in activities to help people not waste energy, and were one of the first groups to go through the HeatHack programme. Thanks to a grant they’ve acquired from the University of St Andrews Community Fund, we’re about to run three two-hour workshops for people who run community buildings of any age or type, including churches. We’ll take attendees through the main things they need to think about to make the most of the energy they put into their building. You’ll also come away with information about local support services that will help you take things further.
You might think it’s all about insulation and heat pumps, but it isn’t – building maintenance, damp, occupancy, and mission all come into it, as does how to tackle the thorny problems of where to start and how to bring a community group to the point of deciding on change. For this side of things, we have a fun programme of games and activities that groups can use to agree what steps are right for their circumstances. We’ll show how this is done and make sure you’re prepared to use the materials, which are all freely available in the HeatHack Guide Book.
To book a place on any of these sessions, just use the link below.
- Tuesday 18th November | Old Parish Centre, Cupar – book now
- Saturday 31st January | Venue to be confirmed, St Andrews – book now
- The Larick Centre, Tayport – to be scheduled, possibly on a Friday in February.
We intend to make the St Andrews one a “church special” – anyone is welcome, but we’ll be careful to specifically address some of the extra issues these difficult buildings bring.
We’re looking forward to working with groups in Fife, and after the sessions will be talking to Greener Kirkcaldy about whether there are any gaps in the support you have that we can help fill. This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
