Greener Kirkcaldy is very active throughout Fife in activities to help people not waste energy, and were one of the first groups to go through the HeatHack programme. Thanks to a grant they have from the University of St Andrews Community Fund, we’re about to run three two-hour workshops for people who run community buildings of any age or type, including churches. We’ll take attendees through the main things they need to think about to make the most of the energy they put into their building. You’ll also come away with information about local support services that will help you take things further.
- Wednesday 18 February 1:30-3:30 pm| Old Parish Centre, Cupar book now
- Wednesday 25 February 6-8 pm | The Larick Centre, Tayport book now
- Saturday 7 March 9:30-11:30 | St Andrews Episcopal Church, St Andrews book now
There will be time to ask questions, and you can always ask to speak to us later, too. We want to establish a longer-term relationship so we’ll use the workshops to understand what you need most, with the aim of figuring out how we deliver that.
Many groups think there’s nothing they can do and then are surprised by what’s in our action card game. Past groups have found that just getting the current heating system under proper control saves a noticeable amount of fuel, or makes people more comfortable, and often both! We’ll explain heating controls and how you can tell whether a small change will pay off. We also help you think about the big picture and how that affects energy use. Building maintenance, occupancy rates, mission and retrofit measures all come into it, as does understanding when radiant heating makes more sense than heating the air and what kinds of heat pump options you might have. We have free games and activities that you can use to help your group come to agreement on a plan and explain to funders why it’s the right plan for you.
